April 2026: The “Money-Saving” Updates for UK Parents
As we welcome the new tax year this April, the UK government has introduced several changes that directly impact our wallets. If you’re raising a family here, these are the three key updates you shouldn’t miss.
1. The Child Benefit “Boost”
Good news! From 6 April 2026, Child Benefit rates have officially increased.

Eldest/Only Child: £27.05 per week.

Additional Children: £17.90 per week.

The “Kicatmom” Math: For a family with 3 kids, you’re now looking at £62.85 per week. Over a year, that’s over £3,200 in tax-free support!
2. Higher Income? Check the New Thresholds
The High Income Child Benefit Charge (HICBC) threshold remains a hot topic. Remember, if the highest earner in your house makes over £60,000, the charge starts to kick in. Once you hit £80,000, you effectively pay back the full amount of the benefit.

Tip: Even if you earn over the limit, stay registered for the benefit to protect your State Pension credits!
3. Childcare Expansion for 9-Month-Olds
The most exciting change this April is the expansion of 15 hours of funded childcare for working parents of children aged 9 months and older.

Eligibility: Each parent must earn at least £183 per week (16 hours at National Living Wage) but less than £100,000 a year.
